End Of Season Review
The clubs first season saw a number of highs and lows, although the clubs final league position will be most disappointing of all. Thrown straight into Division 2, Daedalus FC were behind the experience curve with the majority of the other teams in the league, however, towards the end of the season, once the team had began to gel, the performances, if not the results were improving all the time.
Although only finishing 2nd from bottom, Daedalus finished with a respectable points tally and with a bit more luck through the season, would probably have finished a few places higher. Two wins over Division Champions AFC Dynamo were two of the major highlights considering AFC Dynamo only lost 3 league games all season. And a 9-1 drubbing of Forresters Utd in a friendly towards the end of the season showed the potential Daedalus have next season. All things considered, with a considerable lack of experience of Sunday League football in the squad, the players should not feel too downhearted at their final position in the table.
At the end of season awards, Trevor Lazenbury deservedly won the club Player of the Year Award, narrowly beating Jim Fallon into second place. Trevor was Mr Consistency. He played in every game of the season and his performances throughout were always steady. He was the Daedalus 'rock'.
Ben Gosling narrowly pipped Matt Ward to the Young Player of the Year Award. Starting the season at left-back, Ben performed consistently well however he really began to shine when he advanced to play on the left side of midfield. A change which also saw his goal tally for the season increase.
Special awards were also given to Jim Fallon and Garf Parker who will be moving on to pastures new. Both players showed great commitment throughout the season and their experience will be missed. Jim and Garf were given 'Honorary Club Member' status as recognition for their influence at the club in its first season.
With the new season due to begin in September, the club has already lined up several new players and with the current players benefiting from the experience of last season, the 2009/10 season should be eagerly anticipated.
