MATCH REPORTS - 2011/11 Season 22 Jan 12
AAA 1-1 Daedalus (Daedalus won 4-3 on Penalties) Rich Smith (Pen)
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Hollis (Jase Lowe), Glenn Miller, Ian Ross, Bolly Fraser; Rob Hallam, Scott Oakley, Rich Smith, Mark Gawn; Keith Milligan (Charlie Eames), Jon Perkins
Daedalus scraped through to the quarter finals of the Solent Junior Cup with a win on penalties in a game which was dominated by the weather. A fierce wind blowing down the pitch saw both teams finding it a challenge just to keep the ball when playing into it. But despite the weather trying to play its part, Daedalus seemed to cope the better of the two teams and were unlucky to be a goal down at half time. With a barrage of wind-assisted attacks from AAA, Daedalus played well with the back four keeping a disciplined high line to ensure the majority of through balls could bounce through to the keeper without intervention. At the other end, Daedalus managed to create a couple of chances and should have been in the lead when a shot from Jon Perkins seemed to be turned into the net and over the line, but the referee did not allow the goal. Predictably, following a lucky escape, AAA countered with some Daedalus players still arguing with the ref, leaving the defence exposed to the attack. A cross from the right found the AAA attacker who had time to finish well. With the wind behind them in the second half, Daedalus laid seige to the AAA goal, with efforts reigning in from all over the pitch. Daedalus had the chance to equalise when awarded a penalty ten minutes into the half but Jon Perkins spot kick crept agonisingly past the wrong side of the post. Undeterred, Daedalus continued their assault on the AAA goal and saw several chances miss by a whisker, with the woodwork being rattled on at least 4 occassions. The most notable being two free-kicks smashing against the crossbar from Scott Oakley and Bolly Fraser. The opportunity to equalise came from the penalty spot again. This time, Rich Smith stepped up to apply the finishing touch and level the game. The remainder of the game and extra-time was again dominated by the team with the wind behind them, with Daedalus again creating the more clear cut chances, but failing to add to their tally. With the game to be decided on penalties, Daedalus took an early lead when AAA missed their 2nd and 3rd, with Daedalus takers, Rich Smith, Mark Gawn and Glenn Miller all finding the net. Ian Ross had the opportunity to win the game for Daedalus but saw his spot-kick saved by the AAA keeper. This left Bolly Fraser to step up and hit the winner for Daedalus at the climax of the shoot-out. Despite only managing to win on penalties, Daedalus could take positives from the game after playing the better football and easily creating the most chances.
MoM – Bolly Fraser - Bolly produced a steady performance in defence and supplied the midfield with some confident passing from the back. After seeing his impressive free-kick slam into the crossbar, it was only fitting that Bolly hit the winning penalty and won this weeks award for Man of the Match.

TML 2-0 Daedalus
Team: Wayne Barker; John Ramage, Paul Lodge (Bkd), Ian Ross, Glenn Miller; Mark Gawn, Rob Hallam, Scott Oakley, Dan Stoakes (Bkd)(Terry Douglas); Rich Smith, Jase Lowe (Jon Perkins)
Daedalus were left scratching their heads after succumbing to their first defeat of the year. With the exception of the first 15 minutes of the game, Daedalus dominated possession but failed to manage to create a single clear cut opportunity on goal, with several half chances failing to ht the target. Daedalus were caught out early on when the ball wasn't cleared from the back and the TML striker stole the ball to break through and finish nicely past Wayne Barker. On a small pitch, there was virtually no time on the ball for any of the players, but when Daedalus did create opportunities, it seemed fate was against them. With the best chance of the first half falling for Scott Oakley, he hit a well timed shot on the volley from just inside the area but saw the effort just curl wide of the post. The second half saw a repeat of the first half, with Daedalus dominating but never really creating a clear chance. Any half-chances which did come their way flew just wide or over the crossbar. Efforts from Rob Hallam, Rich Smith and Jon Perkins just failed to hit the target and Paul Lodge had an effort saved at his feet following a run from the back. With Daedalus pushing for an equaliser, gaps were beginning to be left at the back, and when the ball fell to a TML player 25 yards out, a well hit shot saw the ball fly past a helpless Wayne Barker and into the net. It seemed all the luck was going to go TML's way. It was only an incredible finger tip save from Wayne Barker which kept the score at 2-0 shortly after when a smiliar shot to the second goal seemed out of reach. But Wayne pulled off a fantastic save to tip the ball round the post. Daedalus can point to the size of the pitch, pitch conditions and dubious referee decisions, but ultimately, it was a team in contrast to the 2nd half of last weeks performance. What is hopefully only a minor glitch in the league campaign, Daedalus will undoubtedly have to up their game in time for next weeks match. MoM – Paul Lodge - On a day when it would be easy to say that Paul was the least-worst Daedalus player on the pitch, Paul's ability to turn defence into attack was one of the few good points which could be taken from the game. With some crunching tackles throughout the game, Paul was also unlucky not to get on the score sheet after a mazey run from defence.

Daedalus 4-3 Halfway Utd Scott Oakley (2) o.g. Mark Gawn
Team: Wayne Barker; Paul Lodge, Glenn Miller, Ian Ross, Terry Douglas; Mark Gawn, Rob Hallam, Scott Oakley, Charlie Eames; Rich Smith, Jon Perkins (Jase Lowe)
Daedalus started 2012 with a determined win over Southampton side Halfway Utd in the Hampshire Cup. Following a 4 week break, Daedalus were slow to get started in the first half and within the first ten minutes they found themselves a goal down following some pressure and an unfortunate deflection. Daedalus had the opportunity to level the game when they won a stick on penalty following Rich Smith beng brought down. But Jon Perkins effort from the spot was saved by the opposing keeper with a dive low to his left. Although JP was the first to admit it wasn't the best penalty effort. Although Daedalus began to start to create the occasional chance, it was Halfway Utd who extended their lead when another fortunate break fell their way and made it 2-0. Scott Oakley pulled a goal back for Daedalus when the ball fell to him following a cross from the right, and he finished well with a volley into the back of the net. With Daedalus getting back into the game, it was a hammer blow when Wayne Barker was caught off his line and the Halfway Utd midfielder guided a well placed shot into the top corner to give them a 3-1 lead at half-time. Following the break, a rejuvenated Daedalus took to the pitch and dominated the half from start to finish. They soon closed the deficit when Scott Oakley again found himself with time in the area to lash the ball past the Utd keeper. With Daedalus taking a firmer grip on the game, they finally got their first piece of luck when a long ball into the area from Charlie Eames was turned into the net by a Utd player, having only just come onto the pitch. With the scores level at 3-3, Daedalus were looking the most likely to take the lead, and with 15 minutes left to play, a long diagonal ball from Terry Douglas found Mark Gawn at the far post. Mark's powerful effort from a narrow angle flew across goal and into the top corner to give Daedalus the lead for the first time in the game. Despite increased pressure from Halfway Utd, as they threw players forward in search on an equaliser, the Daedalus defence held firm to see them progress to the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Cup. Although not the best start from Daedalus, the team deserved to go through as the cohesion in the team began to grow and they shook off the cobwebs from a lengthy break. MoM – Rich Smith - As the link between the midfield and the forward line, Rich's efforts ensure he was always a threat to the Utd goal. Unfortunate to not score himself, Rich created chances for those around him and just got the nod for this weeks Man of the Match award.

EMT Tool Hire 0-5 Daedalus Jon Perkins (2) Scott Oakley Rich Smith Pete Aldridge
Team: Wayne Barker; John Ramage (Pete Aldridge), Paul Lodge, Glenn Miller, Bolly Fraser (Trevor Smith); Mark Gawn, Rob Hallam, Scott Oakley, Jase Lowe (Matt Hollis); Rich Smith, Jon Perkins
Daedalus ended the year on a high, cruising to a 5-0 win to take them top of Division 2 over Christmas. A scrappy opening twenty minutes saw a fairly even game, but once Jon Perkins gave Daedalus the lead with a fierce shot from a narrow angle, Daedalus settled and dominated for the the majority of the remainder of the game. With Daedalus creating the more clear cut chances, it was no less than they deserved when Scott Oakley doubled the lead shortly before half time, with a well placed short into the corner of the goal. A slightly rejuvinated EMT saw them create a couple of half chances at the start of the second half, but a well organised Daedalus back four ensured that they didn't create any clear cut chances. Daedalus killed off the game with half an hour to go when they hit their third and ended any chances of EMT being able to get back in the game. An inswinging corner eluded the EMT back four and Rich Smith crept in at the far post to bundle the ball over the line and effectively killed the game as a contest. For the remainder of the game, Daedalus dominated and probably should have scored more with several chances being wasted, but Jon Perkins did hit his second of the game. JP received the ball with a yard of space in the penalty area and calmly finished into the bottom corner when one on one with the keeper. The win was wrapped up with five minutes to go when Pete Aldridge received the ball thirty yards out and hit an unstoppable rasping shot into the top corner to leave him speechless for the first time this season. A well deserved win for Daedalus sees them deservedly sitting at the top of Division Two over the Christmas break.
MoM – Pete Aldridge - Pete won this week's man of the match award solely for his long range effort which wouldn't look out of place in Messi or Ronaldo's scrapbook.

Daedalus 2-0 Royale Marine Mark Gawn Jon Perkins
Team: Wayne Barker; Paul Lodge, Ian Ross, Glenn Miller, Terry Douglas; Jase Lowe (Jon Perkins), Rob Hallam, Mark Gawn, Dan Stoakes; Keith Milligan, Rich Smith
Daedalus moved into the last 16 of the Hampshire Cup with a dominant performance against their Southampton rivals. In of the most controlled performances of the season, Daedalus never looked like losing the game and restricted their opponents to just a couple of half chances throughout the game. With the exception of a good opening 10 minutes spell from Royal Marine, Daedalus dominated the remainder of the first half and it was well deserved whe n Mark Gawn bundled the ball home from close range following a pinpoint cross from the impressive Dan Stoakes. The second half saw a more committed Royale Marine and whilst they remained only a goal down they continued to search for an equaliser but an extremely well organised Daedalus defence saw them manage only a couple of stray long range shots. With just 7 minutes to go, having come on from the bence, Jon Perkins put the game to bed. A long ball from Paul Lodge found its target in JP who controlled the ball, turned and lobbed the keeper to effectively end the tie. A good all round performance from Daedalus saw them deservedly win the game and head into the next round of the cup.
MoM – Dan Stoakes - With an assist to his name and a constant source of pinpoint crosses from the left, Dan was deservedly awarded this weeks man of the match award.
AFC Alverstoke 4-1 Daedalus Mark Gawn
Team:
20 Nov 11 Castle In The Air 2-3 Daedalus Charlie Eames (2) Ian Ross Team: Wayne Barker, John Ramage, Ian Ross, Paul Lodge, Trevor Smith (Pete Aldridge); Matt Crouch, Glenn Miller, Mark Gawn, Charlie Eames; Rich Smith, Jon Perkins Daedalus took three points with a scoreline which slightly flattered their opponents. Despite even spells within the game, Daedalus dominated the majority of the game and looked as though they had another gear or two to use if needed. Castle In The Air took the lead midway through the first half when the ball was given away at the back allowing the opposing striker to run through on goal and finish in the bottom corner. It wasn't long before Daedalus were on level terms. Charlie Eames broke with the ball into the Castle half and hit a powerful long range shot which rebounded off the crossbar and went in off the keeper. And Daedalus took the lead before halftime. A well placed corner from Mark Gawn was met with a powerful header from Ian Ross which, despite the keeper getting an arm to the ball, found its way into the net. After the break, Castle pulled he scores level after another defensive error, and they were denied a third when a long range shot which seemed destined for the top corner was acrobatically saved by Wayne Barker. After some continued pressure, Daedalus scored the winner when Charlie Eames latched onto a loose ball and fired in from 10 yards to give Daedalus a deserved lead. Overall, a decent performance from Daedalus to see off their div 2 opponents, despite having a goal ruled out for offside. MoM – TBC
Daedalus 3-3 (aet) Richmond Park Rangers – Daedalus won 4-3 on penalties. Jase Lowe Jon Perkins o.g. Team: Wayne Barker, Matt Crouch (Jase Lowe), Glenn Miller, Ian Ross, Trevor Smith (Bolly Fraser), Rob Hallam, Rich Smith, Scott Oakley (Mark Gawn), Charlie Eames, Keith Milligan, Jon Perkins Daedalus progressed to the 3rd Round of the Hampshire Cup following an epic cup tie against the Bournemouth side, Richmond Park Rangers. Despite an even opening 20 minutes, Daedalus found themselves 2-0 down at half time, and did not look like they were in the mood to be able to turn things round. RPR’s first goal came courtesy of a stick-on penalty after their striker was bundled over by Trevor Smith in the area. Although Wayne Barker saved the initial penalty attempt, the RPR striker was quickest to the rebound and tapped the ball over the line. Daedalus were 2 down after half an hour when RPR broke the Daedalus offside trap and the RPR striker ran through to coolly finish when one on one with Wayne Barker. After a lacklustre first half performance, Daedalus needed to raise their game. This came from a complete change in attitude from the team, and Daedalus took the second half by storm, dominating the play and settling down to play some good football. Despite their dominance, and hitting the woodwork twice, it wasn’t until the 75th minute when Daedalus pulled the first goal back. The RPR keeper left his goal line in an attempt to clear the ball, but only managed to pick out Jase Lowe approximately 40 yards out. With the keeper scrambling back to his line, Jase hit the ball perfectly to send it over the keepers head and under the crossbar to put Daedalus back in the game. Almost immediately, RPR restored their two goal advantage with a controversial goal after the RPR striker was played in when clearly at least 5 yards offside. This didn’t deter the Daedalus effort though, as they fought back and brought the game to 3-2 when Jon Perkins finished with a deft strike past the RPR keeper. With just 2 minutes left on the clock, Daedalus continued to rally and some good work between Charlie Eames and Jon Perkins down the right, resulted in JP hitting a drilled cross across the six yard box, which left the RPR defender flat footed, and unable to prevent himself turning the ball into his own net. In extra time, both teams had chances to win the game. Daedalus’ best effort came from a Rob Hallam free-kick which looked destined for the top corner, only for the RPR keeper to pull off a blinding save to tip the ball round for a corner. And with just minutes of the game left, RPR had a goal rightly disallowed after their striker fouled Ian Ross as they fought for the ball in the Daedalus area. So with a goalless extra time, the drama of a penalty shoot out was needed to decide the game. RPR took the first penalty, and after 2 penalties apiece, the score was 2-2 with Jon Perkins and Glenn Miller both converting from the spot for Daedalus. RPR’s third was well saved by Wayne Barker and Ian Ross gave Daedalus the upper-hand. RPR’s fourth was put well over the bar, but Jase Lowe couldn’t convert his effort to win the game. So following a successful fifth from RPR, Mark Gawn stepped up and sealed the victory with a well placed penalty to put Daedalus through, 4-3. This was a true cup game with the dramas of missed chances, rattling woodwork and disallowed goals, culminating in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out. With the exception of the average first half performance, Daedalus can feel worthy match winners after a good footballing display. MoM – Charlie Eames – A constant thorn in the side of the RPR defence. Whether it was taking places on, or making clever runs behind the defence, Charlie was the Daedalus out-ball which rarely resulted in anything less than a half-chance for the team.

Daedalus 2-3 AC United Scott Oakley (2) Team: Wayne Barker; Glenn Miller (Matt Hollis), Ian Ross, Rich Smith, Terry Douglas; Matt Crouch (Jeff Keating), Mark Brown, Scott Oakley, Charlie Eames; Mark Gawn, Jon Perkins Daedalus succumbed to their first league defeat of the season against fellow promotion hopefuls, AC United. A good game from both sides, saw a match full of half-chances, but very few clear-cut opportunities to score. Daedalus took the lead midway through the first half after some good work on the right from Matt Crouch. Matt played Mark Brown down the wing, who hit a low cross into the area, which was met by the perfectly timed run from Scott Oakley to tap in from close range. With chances few and far between, neither side could really grasp the game and went into half time without the scoreline be changed further. Daedalus appeared to take their foot off the gas at the start of the second half, and despite knowing they only had to keep a clean sheet for the rest of the game to keep up their 100% record, AC United equalised fairly early with a fortunate goal. A high ball to the edge of the area wasn't dealt with by either the defence or the keeper, and as the ball fell following a three way challenge, it fell to the feet of the AC United striker who managed to hook the ball towards goal, leaving Wayne Barker no chance as he attempted to race back to clear. AC United took the lead 10 minutes later following some good football down the right. Wayne Barker did well to get his hand to the initial shot, but could only palm the ball into the path of the AC United player who tapped into an empty net from close range. Daedalus had opportunities to equalise, especially through the efforts from Scott Oakley who seemed to have limitless energy on the pitch. But it was AC United who extended their lead further following one of the most confusing goals of the season. Wayne Barker attempted to clear, but as the rest of the players turned to head up the pitch, the ball managed to find itself at the feet of the AC United striker, who tucked the ball in from the edge of the area. Despite a late rally, Daedalus could only manage to pull one goal back, but it was a goal of sheer class with Scott Oakley firing a left foot volley into the roof of the net from the edge of the area. Overall, it was a close game with the draw looking the most likely, and deserving result, but AC United just pipped this one to take Daedalus' unbeaten record. Man Of The Match - Scott Oakley - Scott was the engine of the midfield today, putting in 100% effort all over the park. His 2 goals were a just reward for his performance and he was rightly awarded this weeks Man of the Match. 16 Oct 11

AFC Queens 3-4 Daedalus Rich Smith (2) Jon Perkins Scott Oakley Team: Wayne Barker; Glenn Miller, Ian Ross, Mark Gawn; Matt Crouch, Rob Hallam (Matt Hollis), Scott Oakley, Mark Brown, Charlie Eames (Jeff Keating); Rich Smith, Jon Perkins (Pete Aldridge)
Despite a less than convincing performance, Daedalus managed to take 3 points to keep their 100% record this season. An open first half saw both sides create plenty of chances and the first goal of the game came after just 3 minutes when the ball fell to Rich Smith, who converted his chance to give Daedalus an early lead. An immediate response from AFC Queens saw them turn the game on its head by equalising and taking the lead before 10 minutes of the game had passed. Firstly, a long range effort which flew into the net from the Queen's playmaker saw them on level terms. Two minutes later, a deep inswinging corner was met at the far post and Queen's were 2-1 up. A stunned Daedalus spent the next ten minutes trying to dig their way out of their own half, and but for some excellent saves from Wayne Barker, Queens could have extended their lead. Once Daedalus began to find their rhythm again, they were rewarded almost immediately when some impressive control from Jon Perkins gave him the space to fire in an equaliser for Daedalus. And Daedalus took the lead for the second time on 38 minutes when a typical long range shot from Scott Oakley curled into the net. On the stroke of half-time, Daedalus scored again through Rich Smith, with what appeared to be a fairly tame shot from 18 yards, but a kind bounce in front of the keeper left him stranded and saw Daedalus take a 4-2 lead in at half time. The Daedalus performance in the second half left a great deal to be desired, but they saw off continued waves of Queens' attacks. After striking the woodwork twice, Queens did pull a goal back when Glenn Miller failed to intercept a through ball and only managed to slow the ball enough for it to fall into the path of the Queens' striker, who rounded the advancing Wayne Barker and rolled the ball into an empty net. Daedalus did manage to hang on, but the players could not deny that on that performance, Queens probably did deserve a draw. Showing more commitment in the second half, and closing every Daedalus player instantly with 1 or 2 players, their work rate was an example that Daedalus can learn from. Overall, not a great performance, but 3 points is 3 points, and sometimes winning whilst not playing at your best can be a good sign of things to come.
Man Of The Match - Rich Smith - With 2 goals, Rich just pipped Wayne Barker for the Man of the Match award. Rich became the Daedalus 'out ball' when under constant pressure in the second half and his attempts to create chances along with his brace of goals saw him just snatch this weeks award.

Real Bridgemary 2-5 Daedalus Charlie Eames Jon Perkins(2)(1 pen) Keith Milligan Matt Crouch
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Hollis, Rich Smith, Mark Gawn, Bolly Fraser; Matt Crouch, Rob Hallam, Scott Oakley, Charlie Eames; Keith Milligan, Jon Perkins
Daedalus with another changed team for this cup game against Bridgemary performed well together straight from the off. Daedalus settled straight into the game knowing they had nothing to lose. We put Bridgemary under pressure and didn’t let them settle into their game. We played some nice football from the back up to the strikers and eventually we were awarded with our first goal with some nice work down the right side and a good cross in from Matt C that Charlie managed to get onto the end of and he totally confused every one including himself when he headed the ball down onto his shin and managed to beat the keeper from close range. Daedalus continued to play football and was 2-0 up with in 18 Minutes when Scott hit a good shot from outside the area which JP then managed to guide the ball into the bottom corner. We did ride our luck at times and some good saves from Wayne and Real not having their shooting boots on managed to keep the score at 2-0 for a while before they managed to score. Daedalus managed to keep their composure and continued to play their flowing football. The third goal was a fantastic goal with a long ball in from Matt H in which Keith controlled it in the box turned the defender run to the by-line and see the keeper slightly off his line expecting a cross and took the shot from the tightest of angles and blasted the ball into the top corner. Daedalus continued to pile on the pressure throughout the first half and were awarded a penalty for a handball and Real were lucky not to go down to 10 men with the handball and the defender forearm smashed JP in the face. JP stepped up and took the penalty 3 times due to players running in the box before the penalty was taken but he managed to convert the penalty to put Daedalus 4-1 up at half time. The second half was no where near as good as the first half with both teams not really settling down into their game. Daedalus defended well in the second half to keep Real at bay and reduce them to a few shoots. They did manage to score their second with 20 minutes to go. Daedalus continued to defend well and had a few shots from long range and finally got their fifth goal with some good link up play between JP and Matt C with JP putting in Matt C who managed to slot the ball passed the Real keeper to calmly finish off the game and put the game to bed. Another outstanding game from Daedalus who continue to be a threat to teams and a well deserved victory in the end.
Man Of The Match - Matt Crouch - A good team effort and a hard one to call this week Matt just managed to get it with his good pace and continuing running up and down the line in the Right Midfield position and his well taken goal at the end of the game and his contribution throughout the game gave him the Man of the Match this week.

HMS Collingwood 4-4 Daedalus Jon Perkins 'Lofty' Steel Rob Hallam Dave Little
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Crouch, Trevor Smith (Dave Little), Rich Smith, Mark Gawn, Trevor Smith; Rob Hallam, Scott Oakley, Mark Brown, Charlie Eames (Matt Hollis); 'Lofty' Steel, Jon Perkins (Jeff Keating) Daedalus with a changed line up from Sunday got off to a slow start and found it difficult to get going. Collingwood got their first goal after 11 minutes with a good strike that had Wayne Barker beaten. Daedalus finally got into their game and starting to play the flowing football that they know they can. JP was put through on the edge of the area and had a shot which bounced up in front of the defender who handled the ball and Daedalus were awarded a penalty. JP slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Collingwood took the lead again when Rich bundled over on of their players in the box and a penalty was awarded. Daedalus soon got back on level terms when JP played in Lofty down the wing who then cut in and had a good run into the box and from a narrow angle struck the ball into the back of the net. Daedalus played much the better football in the first half and deserved to be level at half time. Dave Little came on for Trevor Smith and changed the formation to 3-5-2. Daedalus continued the second half how they finished the first. Some nice football led to Daedalus third when Scott had a shot from 25 Yards out from the left hand side of the pitch which had their keeper beaten but unfortunately his effort hit the crossbar but Rob was at hand to place the ball into the back of the net. Daedalus continued to dominate the game but unfortunately Collingwood soon found the equaliser. Matt and Jeff came on for Charlie and JP and Daedalus went back to 4-4-2. Collingwood then took the lead with 14 minutes to go. Collingwood were awarded a second penalty this one was more dubious. Jeff got the ball first then the player but the ref awarded the penalty. The penalty was superbly saved by Wayne getting down really well to his right to push the ball behind the post. Daedalus continued to play well and push for the equaliser and some play resulted in a corner. Scott put a nice ball into the area for Dave to bundle the ball into the back of the net. Well deserved draw for Daedalus in the end.
Man Of The Match - Mark Brown - Mark was cool and calm on the ball at all times and adapted well to every position he played starting of as Centre Mid and then dropping into the Centre Half position his energy and drive and his good ball possession undoubtedly earned him Man of the Match.

Daedalus 5-1 AFC Whiteley Scott Oakley Jon Perkins (4)(1 pen)
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Crouch, Ian Ross, Mark Gawn, Glenn Miller (Trevor Smith); Rob Hallam ('Tug' Wilson), Scott Oakley, Mark Brown, Charlie Eames (Dan Stoakes); Rich Smith, Jon Perkins
Daedalus kicked off the season with an emphatic win over AFC Whiteley who have returned to the Solent League following a year in the Gosport and Fareham League. The game got off to a good start with both teams trying to settle and grab a hold of the game, but it was Daedalus who settled quickest and soon began to dominate. Scott Oakley bagged Daedalus' first league goal of the season with an impressive strike from distance. After some good work down the left from Charlie Eames, Scott received the ball on the edge of the area and after letting the ball run across his body, he hit a curling dipping shot beyond the reach of the Whiteley keeper. Just six minutes later, Daedalus doubled their lead with Jon Perkins springing the Whiteley offside trap and cooly passing the ball into the net when through one on one. Daedalus could have extended their lead further before half-time, with Charlie Eames, Glenn Miller and Rich Smith all missing when through on goal. Instead of putting the game to bed, Daedalus put themselves under pressure by conceding a penalty on the stroke of half-time, with Charlie Eames fouling the Whiteley striker as he made a dangerous run into the area. Whiteley converted the penalty, but the scoreline did not reflect the Daedalus dominance as the penalty was Whiteley's only shot on target in the first half. With the uncertainty that comes with a one goal lead, Daedalus came out for the second half determined to put some breathing space between them and Whiteley. With Daedalus now facing into a strong wind, the game proved a lot harder than the first half, but Daedalus deservedly extended their lead ten minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty and Jon Perkins stepped up to claim his second of the game by sending the keeper the wrong way. For the next half an hour, neither team could grab a firm hold of the game. Both teams had chances, and Wayne Barker pulled off the save of the match when he managed to parry a well hit long range shot which was destined for the goal. With both teams beginning to run out of steam, the fitness of the Daedalus team was the final nail in the coffin for Whiteley. In the last ten minutes, Daedalus seemed to be able to counter attack at will, and Jon Perkins completed his hat-trick as the clock hit ninety minutes, with another well placed finish. But JP wasn't finished, and deep into injury time, he hit his fourth and Daedalus' fifth of the game to wrap up a conclusive scoreline. A great start to the season for Daedalus. It wasn't a completely polished performance, but there was enough quality throughout the team to ensure that the scoreline reflected the Daedalus dominance in the game.
Man Of The Match - Jon Perkins - Although there were good performances throughout the team, JP deservedly walked away with the Man Of The Match trophy after bagging 4 quality goals. A constant threat to the Whiteley back four, Jon was a thorn in their side throughout the game and rightly claimed 4 goals and the MoM award.

21 Aug 11 Daedalus 3-5 AFC Dynamo Rich Smith (2) Jon Perkins (pen)
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Crouch, Ian Ross, Mark Gawn, Jeff Keating (Bolly Fraser); Matt Hollis, 'Tug' Wilson (Jack Bravan), Mark Brown, Charlie Eames; Rich Smith (Keith Milligan), Jon Perkins
Daedalus got off to a slow start to the game with Dynamo passing the ball around the dadelaus Team. After about 10 minutes we settled into the game and starting to play some nice flowing football. After some good saves from Wayne and some good defensive play from Mark G and Ian Dynamo finally found a way through our strong defence and scored. Daedalus with their heads still held high continued to play football and was eventually awarded with their first goal. A miss hit shot from Charlie landed at the feet of Matt C who passed the ball into the path of Rich who slotted it in from 8 yards. The team came in at half time with a deserving score line. The second half got under way and we continued to play as we did before half time with some nice flowing football. With a run down the wing from Mark G crossed the ball over only to find the hand of on of the Dynamo defenders and we were awarded a penalty. JP stepped up and took the penalty and placed it nicely into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Within a minute Daedalus conceded a sloppy goal where a ball came in from Dynamo one of the defenders jumped for the ball and slightly pushed the dynamo player who had no idea the ball came of his head and went in. We continued to gain momentum and was awarded a free kick just inside their half. Mark G stepped up with a superb free kick for Rich to header the ball pass the keeper. True training ground stuff. The dynamo team continued to push for an equaliser but with our 2 solid centre half pairing and some more excellent saves from Wayne kept the score at 3-2. A clash of heads between Rich and one of the Dynamo players resulted in Rich having to come off to go and get his head glued. Daedalus then lost their shape a little bit and Dynamo equalised. With 10 minutes of the game remaining Charlie got cramp and couldn’t continue so a further change to the team and Daedalus losing their shape even more Dynamo finished the game the stronger and grabbed another couple of goals. All in all Daedalus played with some flare and passion throughout most of the game and should take away the positives with a strong team performance.
Man Of The Match - Wayne Barker - Wayne just beat Rich to the Man of the Match award today. Wayne controlled his defence well and pulled of some blinding saves especially when the Dynamo strikers got through on one on one against Wayne and he kept Daedalus in the game throughout most of the game. FC Sorento 2-1 Daedalus Jase Langridge
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Crouch, Glenn Miller, Mark Gawn (Pete Aldridge), Bolly Fraser (Terry Dougla); Jase Langridge (Matt Hollis), Matt Ward (Jeff Keating), Rich Smith, Scott Thompson; Rob Hallam, Jon Perkins (Keith Milligan)
Daedalus stumbled through their first pre-season defeat with a performance which, at best, was disjointed. With players still being tried in various positionsand a lack of fluidity, an improved Sorento team took a deserved win from this game. Daedalus took the lead midway through the first half when the ball fell to Jase Langridge 10 yards out, who fired into the net. Minutes later, Daedalus thought they had scored a second when a Matt Ward effort appeared to have crossed the line, but with the referee unsighted, no goal was given. For the rest of the half, the game was run by the Sorento playmaker who was continually given far too much time on the ball to pick and choose his passes which led to Sorento's equaliser when a throughball caused confusion at the back. A Wayne Barker challenge almost stamped out the attack, but the ball fell kindly for the Sorento striker to pass the ball into an empty net. Minutes later, Sorento went ahead when some more creative play in midfield opened up the Daedalus defence once more. The game remained goaless for the remaining 55 minutes with both teams only managing to fashion some half chances. A slight change of emphasis saw the Sorento ball players being closed down a lot more quickly, but in the final third, Daedalus rarely created any threatening attacks. Overall, it was a poor perofrmance from Daedalus. A very poor pitch stopped Daedalus playing any fluid football, but a lack of bite and creativity saw Daedalus deservedly come away from the game with nothing.
Man Of The Match - Mark Gawn - Mark pipped this weeks Man Of The Match with one of the few Daedalus performances of any note. Playing his first game for Daedalus at centre-back, Mark was assured on the ball and his positioning and anticipation broke up several Sorento attacks. GM
31 Jul 11 FC Sorento 1-6 Daedalus Dan Jackson (3) Charlie Eames Jon Perkins 'Lofty' Steel Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Crouch (Terry Douglas), Glenn Miller (Bolly Fraser), Rich Smith, Mark Gawn (Pete Aldo); Jase Langridge ('Lofty Steel), Matt Ward (Jeff Keating), Scott Oakley, Charlie Eames (Matt Hollis); Jon Perkins, Dan Jackson Daedalus continued their pre-season preparations with a comfortable win against the Portsmouth side, FC Sorento. On a very uneven and firm pitch, the conditions for Daedalus' usual passing game were not ideal, but the difference in class between the two teams was evident from early on with Daedalus having the majority of the play and with Sorento rarely threatening at the other end. Daedalus took the lead on 10 minutes when Dan Jackson found some space on the edge of the area and hit his first for the club with a side-footed pass into the bottom corner. The lead was doubled on 35 minutes when a Charlie Eames corner was misjudged by the Sorento defence with the ball going straight in, despite a last ditched attempted goal line clearance. Wayne Barker ensured that a two goal lead was maintained when a long ball was misjudged by the Daedalus defence allowing the Sorento striker through on goal. But an early shot gave Wayne the chance to make an impressive diving save low to his left. Daedalus went three up just before the break following a goal mouth scramble which eventually fell to Jase Langridge. Jase fired his shot from the edge of the area with Jon Perkins steering the ball into the net to leave the Sorento keeper with no chance of making a save. Even with six changes at half time, the Daedalus momentum was not broken, and a deserved fourth goal wasn't long in coming. Again, Dan Jackson found himself some space about 20 yards out, and this time hit a curling and dipping effort for his second of the game. FC Sorento did get on the scoresheet shortly after when a cross from the right was mishandled by Wayne Barker. The ball fell to an opposing striker who fired in from close range. Daedalus ensured the scoreline reflected their dominance as they game drew to a close. Following a stick-on penalty shout, Dan Jackson stepped up to complete his hat-trick and with the last kick of the game, Glenn Miller's shot was well saved by the Sorento keeper, but was powerless to stop 'Lofty' Steel converting the loose ball into the empty net. Overall, another solid performance from Daedalus as they continue to build for the new season. Man Of The Match - Scott Oakley - A tough call for today's amn of the match eventually fell to Scott Oakley although hat-trick hero Dan Jackson was also in with a very good shout. But overall, Scott was a powerhouse in midfield with seemingly unsappable energy and was the lynchpin in most of the Daedalus forays forward. GM
17 Jul 11 Mould Tools 5-5 Daedalus Matt Ward 'Lofty' Steel (3) Scott Oakley
Team: Wayne Barker; Matt Crouch, Trevor Lazenbury, Ian Ross, Pete Aldo (Jeff Keating); Jase Langridge, Mark Gawn (Matt Ward), Rich Smith (Scott Oakley), Charlie Eames (Kieran Heather); Jon Perkins ('Lofty' Steel), Dan Jackson Daedalus began this year's pre-season warm-ups against a full strength Mould Tools from Division One. With several new players being blooded by Daedalus, there was a lack of cohesion amongst the team as Mould Tools took advantage of this, playing in what was already their fourth pre-season match of the season. By half-time, Mould Tools were 4-0 with the game looking as good as over, but a resurgent Daedalus performance in the second-half showed that the season ahead may well be full of promise. With the familiar face of Matt Ward getting on the score sheet, newcomer Scott Oakley bagged his first for the club alongside an impressive hat-trick from fellow debutant, 'Lofty' Steel. In a match which was only ever intended to gain some match fitness along with some gelling of a new look team, Daedalus can be deservedly proud of a strong and determined performance. Man Of The Match - Rich Smith - Rich started where he finished off last season. A rock in the centre of midfield, his ability to link defence and attack will play a vital contribution to the season ahead. KM
