End Of Season Review - 2010/11
Daedalus FC completed their third and most successful season in the Solent League by claiming the Div 3 runners-up position and promotion to Division 2.
Some impressive performances through the season saw Daedalus deservedly claim second place. A 7-0 annihilation of Foresters Utd was supplemented by a 5-0 defeat of TF United in which Daedalus played their best and most prolonged period of total football. The icing on the cake was the 2-0 win of previously unbeaten TML during the season run-in. It was a performance of total commitment from all those on the pitch with every challenge battled for and constant closing down which allowed TML no time on the ball which strangled their usual football style.
Top Goalscorer, Jon Perkins led the attack, averaging more than a goal a game. But with the goals shared around the team, there were some memorable goals scored throughout the season. An impressive volley from Rich Smith from the edge of the area and long range efforts from Matt Hollis, Jools Browning and Kyle McCartney are particularly noteworthy. Wayne Barker was also a lynchpin of the team at the other end with consistent performances between the post, no doubt saving as many points as JP won.
This years individual awards were pre-empted by the announcement that Keith Milligan will be taking on the role of Manager next season.
Jon Perkins easily claimed the Top Goalscorer Award with Bolly Fraser being voted by the Club Committee as Clubman of the Year. Despite not playing the second half of the season due to injury, Bolly was almost ever-present on the sidelines in a supportive role and offering some valuable advice tactically. For his commitment to club which was well above the call of duty, Bolly deservedly took the award.
The Young Player of the Year went to Matt Ward. Consistently good performances from Matt throughout the season saw him take the votes by a landslide majority. This season also saw Matt mature as a leader within the team, often orchestrating the back four as a solid unit.
The Player of the Year was again by a majority vote from the other players with Ian Ross taking the award. Ian didn't have a bad game all season and was inspirational with Matt Ward at the back in ensuring Daedalus conceded the fewest goals in a season by a country mile. Ian played throughout the season with total commitment and also offered an extra avenue of attack with the occassional surging run up the field. A very well deserved award for the 'gentleman' of the team.
